Privacy Policy

INSIDE KOREA

Your information, explained clearly.

This policy describes how the Inside Korea operator handles information on insidekor.com, including its multilingual magazine and member community. Privacy contact: [email protected]. Effective and last updated: 23 October 2026.

1. Information we use and why

Membership uses a username, email address, password stored in hashed form, public nickname and account records to provide sign-in, profile management and account assistance. Community features use the writing, comments, photographs and related publication records you choose to submit. If you contact us, we receive your email address, message and any attachments. These are used to provide the requested service, respond to enquiries and manage rights requests—not to treat account creation as consent to marketing.

2. What becomes public

A member’s public nickname, submitted text, photographs and publication details may be visible to everyone immediately after posting. The profile screen keeps the account email private; an email or other information you type into a public post becomes public. Photos are optional. Remove location metadata and avoid uploading other people’s private information. Readers can download public images, and search engines or others may retain copies.

3. Technical and security information

Requests to the site can produce IP addresses, request times, page or referring addresses and browser/device information. The hosting service, firewall and login protection use relevant records to deliver pages, investigate errors and protect accounts. WordPress comments can also carry IP and browser metadata. These records are separate from the privacy-protected analytics described below. Registration does not require government identifiers, payment-card details or health information.

4. Retention and deletion

Account information is kept while the account is maintained and is reviewed for removal when closure is requested. Posts, comments and photographs remain until removed; closing an account does not necessarily remove every public contribution, so identify any content you want deleted. Enquiry records are used through resolution and any necessary follow-up or dispute. Information no longer needed is deleted or anonymised, except records required by applicable law or an unresolved security/legal matter. Server-security and backup retention follows the relevant hosting and security configuration; the analytics limit below is not a promise that every server or backup record is erased after 180 days. Contact us for the retention and deletion position of a particular record.

5. Website statistics

We use WP Statistics to understand page views, referrals, approximate geography and browser/device categories. Current settings mask and hash IP addresses, do not associate visits with logged-in WordPress user IDs, and do not store the full user-agent string. Analytics are stored in the website’s WordPress database. Detailed records older than 180 days are scheduled for daily aggregation: detailed rows are removed while overall and page-level visitor/view totals remain. This statistical system is designed to work without tracking cookies.

6. Cookies and Google advertising

WordPress uses necessary authentication/session cookies and may retain interface preferences. You can remove or block cookies in your browser; blocking necessary cookies can prevent sign-in. Google AdSense is enabled. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies or similar identifiers, IP addresses and page information to deliver and measure ads, prevent abuse and, depending on consent and settings, personalise advertising using previous visits to this or other sites. Controls are available at Google My Ad Center and in browser privacy settings. Turning off personalised ads does not mean every advertising request or technical record stops. Where a consent message is presented, use its controls to make or change your choice; this policy itself is not consent.

7. Hosting, external content and international processing

Cafe24 provides the site’s hosting infrastructure for stored accounts, content and files. Service providers may process data needed to operate the service. Google receives browser requests when its advertising or embedded services load; its services may process information in the United States and other countries under its published policy. If Gravatar avatars are used, an email-derived hash and image request can be sent to Automattic’s service. External images, videos or other embedded content can disclose IP/browser and referring-page information to their hosts when loaded. Following the optional Google Translate link sends the text included in that link to Google. Avoid putting confidential material into a translation draft. Retention, international processing and rights channels of those independent services are described in their policies; blocking third-party content may limit those features.

8. Disclosure and service policies

We do not publish the membership email list. Public contributions, necessary service-provider processing and disclosures required by law are distinct from selling a member list. A new use or disclosure that legally requires separate consent will not be authorised merely by this policy. See Google’s Privacy Policy, Google’s partner-site information and Automattic’s Privacy Policy for the services described above. External shopping, ticket and information sites apply their own terms when you visit them.

9. Your choices and requests

You can change your public nickname and password in your account. To request access, correction, an export, deletion, account closure, restriction or withdrawal of consent where applicable, email [email protected] with your account identifier and relevant page links. We may verify control of the account and respond within applicable legal deadlines. Do not send a password or identity document without a specific, justified request. If information must be retained, we will explain the applicable reason. We cannot guarantee deletion of copies independently retained by search engines or other people.

10. Protection and children

The site uses HTTPS, WordPress password hashing, permission controls, a firewall and login protection. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Do not share passwords or put sensitive information in public posts. We do not operate a verified parental-consent process for children under 14. Children under 14 should not register or submit personal information without an appropriate lawful parental-consent process. A parent or guardian can contact us about a child’s information so it can be reviewed and removed where required.

11. Contact, complaints and changes

The Inside Korea operator handles privacy enquiries at [email protected]. You may also seek assistance through Korea’s Privacy Portal, KISA privacy infringement service or your local supervisory authority. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a revised date, with additional notice or consent where required. This version describes the settings checked on 23 October 2026.
